How do I know if I need IVF or IUI?

After proper evaluation (hormonal tests, scans, semen analysis), the doctor will recommend  the best treatment option for you.

What is the difference between IVF and IUI?

IUI (Intrauterine Insemination) involves placing processed sperm directly into the uterus during ovulation.

IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) involves fertilizing the egg with sperm in a laboratory before transferring the embryo into the uterus.

How long does the process take?

An IVF cycle typically takes about 4–6 weeks. IUI usually takes about 2 weeks per cycle.

Is the procedure painful?

Most procedures cause little to no pain. Egg retrieval is done under sedation, and embryo transfer is usually painless.

What are the procedures of IVF?
  • Ovarian Stimulation: Fertility medications are given to stimulate the ovaries to produce multiple eggs.
  • Monitoring: Regular ultrasounds and blood tests to track follicle growth and hormone levels.
  • Trigger Injection: A special injection is given to mature the eggs before retrieval.
  • Egg Retrieval (Egg Collection: A minor procedure performed under sedation to collect eggs from the ovaries.
  • Sperm Collection & Preparation: A semen sample is collected and processed in the laboratory.
  • Fertilization: Eggs are fertilized with sperm in the lab (either conventional IVF or ICSI).
  • Embryo Culture: Fertilized eggs (embryos) are monitored for 3–5 days.
  • Embryo Transfer: A healthy embryo is placed into the uterus through a simple procedure.
  • Pregnancy Test: A blood test is done about 10–14 days after embryo transfer to confirm pregnancy.
What should I avoid during treatment?

Smoking, alcohol, excessive caffeine, and stress should be avoided.

Can IVF guarantee pregnancy?
